John,
In the early days of the pandemic, Congress passed the CARES Act, which extended unemployment benefits and gave folks $1,200 in direct payments.
Since the summer, nearly 8 million Americans have fallen into poverty. Millions more have lost their homes, their healthcare, their jobs. States and municipalities have suffered massive revenue losses that could lead to unthinkable cuts to public schools and healthcare.
And Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell have allowed the pandemic to devastate our communities, blocking any further relief.
Here's the truth: Those $1,200 checks weren't enough for working families desperately trying to put food on the table and keep a roof over their heads in March, and they aren't enough now.
But as negotiations on a new COVID relief package enter their final hours, Mitch McConnell is insisting on protections for corporations while only offering working families crumbs.
It's outrageous, and every member of Congress should be ashamed.
Will you add your name next to mine demanding that any COVID relief package MUST include direct payments of $1,200 or more and enhanced unemployment insurance for working families.

Republicans made sure to take care of their billionaire friends and corporate donors early on. Some even profited themselves by selling off stocks while publicly playing down the danger of COVID.
Then they left working families to fend for themselves as the pandemic grew worse and job losses persisted.
Now, as hospitalizations are at a record high and mandated closures are starting again, they're telling working people to figure it out on their own.
We urgently need to make sure every member of Congress knows that this current deal is unacceptable:

In solidarity,
