The Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency—Energy (ARPA-E) holds an irreplaceable role in the U.S. energy innovation ecosystem. Since its formation in 2009, ARPA-E has provided $2.4 billion in funding to more than 975 projects. Of those supported, 172 projects have attracted over $6.3 billion in private-sector follow-on funding, including the recent initial public offering by QuantumScape, a 2010 Stanford University project, with an equity valuation of $3.3 billion.
In 2020 ARPA-E continued to support early-stage energy innovation while navigating the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to creating a new SCALEUP program designed to fund pilot and scaling projects of successful ARPA-E technologies.
Join us for a conversation with ARPA-E Director S. Lane Genatowski and David Danielson, Managing Director at Breakthrough Energy Ventures and former DOE Assistant Secretary for the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.
