Policing accountability. Nothing less.
Fight for it now and in the New Year.
Demand a new paradigm of public safety. [link removed]
Dear Advocate,
I don't need to tell you that 2020 was a year of reckoning.
Police violence stole the lives of Casey Goodman Jr., Rayshard Brooks, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and so many others. People across the country were forced to confront just how deeply systemic racism and inequality permeate American life -- and as a result, millions of people from all walks of life organized and marched for justice and police accountability.
Looking back on this year, it's clear that the power we build and deploy locally fuels our ability to drive national change.
After the murder of George Floyd, our coalition developed a police accountability framework, endorsed by more than 450 organizations, that became the basis for the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. Because people like you showed up to demand change, Congress took meaningful action for the first time in years. But that was just a first step.
Will you make an urgent commitment to continue the fight for policing accountability in the New Year? [link removed]
When we speak out and follow the lead of communities most impacted by police violence, we can affect real change. And we can transform public safety at the local, state, and national levels.
The Leadership Conference is already meeting with the Biden-Harris transition team and laying out our collective demands to end systemic divestment in communities and transform the framework of police accountability. But it can't happen without grassroots support. [link removed]
