Media are reporting that President-elect Joe Biden has chosen
Congresswoman Deb Haaland to be the next Secretary of the Interior -- and
the first Native American ever to serve in the Cabinet.

Deb Haaland is a historic choice who will be an inspiring, progressive
leader for a department that deals with public lands, climate change, and
relations with Tribal Nations. As my friends at the PCCC said, "With the
historic appointment of Deb Haaland as Interior Secretary, Joe Biden chose
the most qualified person and put a true movement progressive in his
Cabinet."

PCCC’s congratulations card for Deb. You can also leave Deb a personal
note -- and one for President-Elect Biden.

The PCCC will deliver this card to them.

Joe Biden’s decision to make Deb Halland Secretary of the Interior is an
outright victory for progressives -- and for America. We thank him for
making the right choice.

For weeks, I’ve worked with the PCCC, Native leaders, climate leaders,
women leaders, and other progressives in urging the Biden-Harris
Transition to make this historic choice. Here’s why...

Deb Haaland is Chair of the relevant Subcommittee on National Parks,
Forests, and Public Lands -- where she chaired some of the first hearings
on climate change in the House in over a decade. She was also Tribal
Administrator of the Pueblo of San Felipe before being one of the first
Native American women elected to Congress. She passed numerous bills on
Tribal rights and natural resources through Congress and into law.

Deb has exactly what’s needed for a position that deals with public lands,
climate change, and relations with Tribal Nations. Elizabeth Warren says
Deb has a "top-notch command of policy." Republican colleagues from
Oklahoma and Alaska recently praised her work.

There’s more work to do. The New York Times recently reported, "The
Progressive Change Institute, a group aligned with Senator Elizabeth
Warren, sent an extensive list on Friday to Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s
transition team that included about 400 recommended names for positions in
his administration."

Deb Haaland’s name was way high up on the Progressive Change list, and
many more slots have left to be filled. [ [link removed] ]You can make a tax-deductible
donation to the Progressive Change Institute’s continued work to influence
who gets into the next Administration. So far, so good. Let’s keep it up.

Thanks for being a bold progressive.
