In 2020 we've adjusted how we live, work, and connect. Here at the Center for Democracy & Technology (CDT), we've pivoted quickly to respond to new challenges brought by sweeping societal change, while remaining steadfast in our commitment to protect consumer privacy and address data-driven discrimination, defend election integrity, advocate for speech protections online, and limit the use of government surveillance.
There is more work ahead, and we need your help! This holiday season, in honor of our 25th Anniversary, we are working to raise $25,000 by the end of the year. These funds will help support CDT's work in 2021, a year that promises to move the needle on so many key tech policy issues. Donate now to help us reach our goal.
Over our 25-year history, CDT has charted the course for tech policy, and this transformational year has been no different. Among our accomplishments this year:
- We launched new work to address immediate concerns facing policymakers in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, including online classroom safety and privacy, contact tracing, health data privacy and disinformation, and the digital divide.
- We fought for election security and against disinformation that suppresses voter turnout, and offered insights into the realities of an election where mail-in voting was simultaneously encouraged and a target for voter suppression tactics.
- We fought for the right to free speech online by filing a lawsuit against the "Executive Order on Preventing Online Censorship", arguing that the Executive Order violates the First Amendment by retaliating against content moderation practices the President dislikes.
- We launched the Global Encryption Coalition in partnership with ISOC and Global Partners Digital, which focuses on fighting government threats to encryption worldwide.
The list of accomplishments this year is long, and these are just a few. For all of our successes, we know that our work is strengthened, disseminated, and influential in shaping policy thanks to your partnership and good counsel. You can continue that support by making a donation today.
Thank you for your continued support of CDT. Together, we are putting democracy and individual rights at the center of the digital revolution.
Sincerely,
Alexandra Givens
