John --
I know there is a lot going on in my race with Paul Cook’s retirement, but I wanted to discuss an important development from this week that we cannot lose site of.
The Trump Administration just launched a new attack on the environment. This time, they’re trying to revoke California’s authority to regulate tailpipe emissions in our state.
If we let Trump get his way, it could have devastating consequences. California has set the standard on emissions reduction. That’s why thirteen other states have followed our lead and adopted our rules.
What Trump is forgetting (or just doesn’t know) is that our emissions rules were never a part of some left-wing agenda. Ronald Reagan helped usher them in because smog and pollution had become so hazardous and deadly in the mid-century.
Now, Trump wants to rollback these crucial protections to benefit his Big Oil allies. It’s corrupt, and we cannot allow it to happen.
California’s 8th District is home to some of the richest natural landscapes in the country -- from Mono Lake to Joshua Tree National Park. We have a duty to be good stewards of these treasures. That’s why I launched this campaign on Earth Day, and it’s why I find Trump’s latest move s
o appalling.
We need a representative in Congress with the political courage to stand up to these attacks on our environment. That’s what I will do if I’m elected. But this is a fight that we can only win together.
So thank you for standing by my side.
Chris
