It has been a difficult year for everyone. And the list of challenges LEAP will take on in the coming year is tremendous, but certainly not insurmountable with your support, John. To keep the national focus on police accountability front and center in 2021, we need your help.

Because we know times are tough, if you are able to continue supporting LEAP's crucial work, we want you to know about some key changes to the 2020 tax filing year resulting from the CARES Act** that could benefit you and your family:

  • The new law allows all taxpayers to take a charitable deduction of up to $300, even if you do not itemize.
  • If you do itemize your deductions, the new law allows for cash contributions to qualified charities, including LEAP, to be deducted up to 100% of your adjusted gross income for the 2020 calendar year.
  • For seniors, the CARES Act temporarily suspends requirements for required minimum distributions (RMD) for the 2020 tax year. If you have had to withdraw a greater percentage of your retirement accounts due to Covid-19, this may come as a relief.  If you normally use your RMD to make a gift from your IRA, and you are 70½ or older, you can still make a gift from your IRA.

We are so grateful for your generosity. Because of you, the Law Enforcement Action Partnership is able to continue building the movement for real, lasting change to the justice system.

With our utmost appreciation,

Major Neill Franklin (Ret.)
Executive Director

Lieutenant Diane Goldstein (Ret.)
Incoming Executive Director
