This is a timely conversation about the unprecedented 2020 elections and the future of democracy reform in Minnesota. Presidential elections always require tremendous organization, training and education, but 2020 was a uniquely challenging year. Not only did we have to take special precautions to protect voters and election workers from a once in a century pandemic, but we also held our first-ever presidential primary under COVID, had to rebut divisive, unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud and misinformation, and witness, once again, the spoiler dynamic play out in key races across the state.

Join Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon as he details the preparations required for this unprecedented election, its success despite those challenges, and what lies ahead to protect against threats to our democratic institutions.    

FairVote Minnesota Executive Director Jeanne Massey will join Secretary Simon to underscore the urgency of election reform in light of the divisive attacks on our elections this year and the harmful impact of spoiler dynamics. These efforts to undermine our democracy won’t go away on their own.

Among the top reforms gaining momentum in Minnesota and across the country is Ranked Choice Voting.
