John -- It has taken a global pandemic for Congress to finally begin a discussion about student loan forgiveness in America. Yet sweeping student loan forgiveness is a tall order given where we are:

  • President-elect Biden proposes $10,000 in forgiveness per borrower. Progressive leaders advise that $50,000 per borrower will make more impact.

  • Incoming administration officials believe Congress should pass student loan forgiveness legislation. Meanwhile, some members of Congress say President-elect Biden should cancel debt by executive order.

  • Adversaries of reform believe student loan forgiveness should only be granted to those who are “economically distressed”.

An executive order will undoubtedly end up in the Supreme Court. We believe Congress should pass meaningful student loan forgiveness, and send relief to the millions of Americans who are being crushed under this debt.

The COVID pandemic has compounded what was already a tremendous financial burden for millions of Americans. Congress could take action, yet it has failed the American people at every turn. Why?

Because Congress is in the pockets of big banks and corporate donors. But we have a plan to break the hold that banks and lenders have on Congress.

We are going to elect more uncorrupted and unbought progressive leaders in 2022.

Victory in 2022 begins now. Can you help us prepare to build out our largest BNC candidate slate yet with a $5 contribution today?

A high-quality education is essential to secure a promising future. It should be financially attainable and not come with crushing debt. This vision is possible, if we stand together.

Yours for the revolution,

Zeynab Day
