We're 19 days from Georgia's Senate run-off election. Here's the news that you'll want to know:
Report: "Over 100K Georgians who didn’t vote on Election Day have requested ballots for Senate runoffs." "As of Thursday afternoon, 108,625 Georgians who did not vote in the November election have applied for ballots to vote in the Jan. 5 runoffs, according to data from georgiavotes.com. The tracking site uses publicly available information from the Georgia secretary of state's website." (The Blaze) • According to The Blaze, 108,625 Georgia voters who did not cast ballots in the November 3 election have requested absentee ballots for the January 5 Senate run-off -- and they "probably lean Democratic."
• The Blaze also quoted Karl Rove explaining: "In November, 1,740,795 people requested a mail-in ballot — 1,362,369 actually exercised it, voted by mail. So today, the requests are half a million less, a third less than they were for the November election."
• Almost 76,000 new Georgia voters registered ahead of the December deadline to be eligible to vote in the January 5 run-off.
• Early voting started in Georgia this week. According to POLITICO, "More than 168,000 voters cast ballots in person Monday, the first day early voting locations were open, according to the secretary of state's office. [...] More than 314,000 votes have been cast via absentee ballots, with another 900,000 absentee ballots still outstanding."
Georgia will launch statewide signature study for absentee ballot signatures. "Along with the Cobb audit, Raffensperger said the University of Georgia will assist his office with a statewide signature match audit study after that." (WSB-TV2 Atlanta) • Georgia will launch a statewide study of signature matches for absentee ballot envelopes.
• The Georgia Secretary of State previously announced a signature audit in Cobb County. That will be completed first (and expected to start next week), and then the state will focus on the statewide study.
• A statement from the Secretary of State's website explains: "Secretary Raffensperger has asked researchers at the University of Georgia's School of Public and International Affairs to conduct research, including a randomized signature match study of election materials handled at the county level in the November 3 Presidential contest. This work will also include research on processes used at the county level to perform signature-matching.
"The work UGA will perform is a study of a sample of signed envelopes in each county from the presidential election. It is intended to be forward-looking, helping to inform and optimize election administration for future electoral contests in the State of Georgia."
New Georgia poll shows Republican candidates in the lead. "A new Emerson College poll has Republican Georgia Sens. Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue each leading narrowly over Democrats Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff. Both GOP senators lead by three percentage points over their Democratic Party challengers at 51% to 48%, with the remaining 1% undecided." (Daily Caller) • Republican Senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler now have a 3-point lead over their Democratic opponents Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock headed into the January 5 election.
• Also worth noting, as the Daily Caller reported: "'The data revealed there is little crossover support, which suggests one party should win both seats,' said Spencer Kimball, Director of Emerson College Polling."
