Right now nearly 50,000 U.S. auto workers with United Auto Workers (UAW) are now on strike. It is one of the largest strikes in the U.S. in over a decade. And we’re committed to fighting alongside them every step of the way.

One of the top issues they are striking over is health care benefits, the costs of which GM continues to try and pass on to their workers. And what’s worse - a few days ago in a rare move, GM decided to terminate health coverage for these workers and their families for the duration of the strike. And though UAW is picking up the costs through COBRA, it can only go so far. This has left members and their families worrying about how to pay for insulin, prescriptions, and cancer treatments.

The need for Medicare for All couldn’t be more clear. We’re grateful to UAW for endorsing H.R. 1384. With Medicare for All, unions would no longer have to negotiate or strike over health care. And we would achieve a system that guarantees a comprehensive, high quality, single standard of care that is no longer tied to one’s employment.

The United Auto Workers are holding more than 50 picket lines across the country on Monday and we’re helping turnout our supporters in solidarity. There isn’t one near you, but could you share these posts on social media instead? It could really help drive turnout to these strike lines.

When wealthy fatcats and executives come after workers, it’s an attack on all of us. And what’s happening to these GM members is a perfect example of why relying on employer-based insurance is so dangerous.

These CEOs aren’t benevolent. They’re exploitative. And when workers try to organize for better conditions or health care, the companies will do exactly what they’re doing here: threaten the health of 50,000 workers and their families. Bottom line: we can’t rely on employers to provide care and insurance. We need Medicare for All.

We hope you’ll join us in supporting the picketing GM workers on Monday. Please amplify their posts on social media by clicking either of the links above, or by forwarding this email to your friends.
