Leading Through Courageous Feminist Activism

In the face of crisis, feminist activists are leading with courage. Through uncertainty and fear, they are developing and utilizing new tools and strategies demanding change. These brave activists prove time and time again that leading with courage paves the way to dismantling inequality, discrimination, and marginalization.

Across our regions, our grantees are hearing the call to right the wrongs in our society— and without hesitation, they answer. That is the true definition of courage. Urgent Action Fund is guided by a simple mission- to deploy rapid, flexible grants that respond to the urgent and tactical needs of frontline women, trans, and gender non-conforming human rights defenders. Giving a gift to UAF means you are funding courage and connecting to women, trans, and gender non-conforming activists.

Project Blackbird ([link removed][UNIQID])

When criminal justice reforms were enacted, Project Blackbird seized the opportunity to put the spotlight on the case of Tondaloa Hall, who was serving 15 years behind bars for her abuser's crimes. Ten days after receiving a grant from Urgent Action Fund, Project blackbird succeeded in its campaign for Tondalao’s release. This victory sent a clear signal that the time is now to bring justice to the countless other women still behind bars.

Women. Disability. Feminism. ([link removed][UNIQID])
Women. Disability. Feminism. is a collective led by and for women and LGBTQI people with disabilities calling for full equality and respect for their rights. As the only association in Russia of its kind, Women. Disability. Feminism. aims to increase public awareness, understanding, and acceptance of people with disabilities. UAF’s grant allowed Women. Disability. Feminism. to launch a new website that is accessible and adaptable for people with disabilities. This platform increases the visibility of LGBTQI and women activists with disabilities who are too often the targets of gender-based violence.
