Trump is on his way out and about to clean the house of his disloyal servants. And no, this time it won’t just be the usual suspects of conniving, inexperienced loyalists that he ushered into power when he ascended to the throne.
Next on the chopping block is any civil service employee who dares to stand up to him. It’s unprecedented, anti-democratic, harmful to the Biden-Harris administration -- and legal.
Shortly before losing the election, Donald Trump gave himself an insurance policy. He used an executive order to create a new “Schedule F” designation for government employees. 88% of the Office of Management and Budget’s employees now fall under that classification -- which matters a great deal.
As Federal News Network reports: “[Trump’s order] allows agency heads to hire or fire employees to these appointments at will. And it applies to both existing career federal positions and future ones, meaning current employees in certain policy-making roles may lose their civil service protections.”
That’s right: Trump has cleared the way to fire a massive amount of government employees before leaving office on January 20. He could do it as revenge for his defeat, as a way to sabotage the Biden administration, or just for the ratings -- we know being the ringmaster at the center of the attention is what Trump loves best.
We’ve beaten this president before. The clearest example was the historic defeat we issued him this election, but we need to remember that Trump’s not gone yet, and the fight’s not over.
We want to demand the restoration of civil service protections for anyone Trump might fire on his way out -- we don’t like the idea of Trump cleaning house right before he shuts the door.
