Ending the Trump presidency was, by far, our most important goal in 2020 and you helped People For play a vital role in that absolutely essential victory.
Now, even as unsupported claims of voter fraud still reverberate throughout the far-right echo chamber, we are inching closer to the end of Trump’s presidency and falling back from the front lines now would squander opportunities that we cannot afford to lose.
That’s why it’s urgent that you respond before the end of the year to let me you know you’re ready to keep standing with us in the fight to stop hate and defend democracy.
The urgency is not just about fights in the coming year. RIGHT NOW, and for the next several weeks, People For the American Way is ALL IN on:
- winning the Georgia runoff elections and breaking Mitch McConnell’s hold on the U.S. Senate;
- demanding a fair and robust COVID relief bill targeted to help those most in need;
- pressing President-elect Biden to nominate a strong, progressive Cabinet;
- urging the incoming administration to use executive orders to redress many of Trump’s most outrageous policies.
And this is just a start. As People For heads into our 40th year, while our country and our movement face vast, persistent challenges, we also have historic opportunities that we need to seize NOW. Those include:
- democracy reforms to end voter suppression, get unlimited Big Money out of politics, and stop gerrymandering;
- decisive action on police violence, including passage of the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act;
- immediately preparing to win essential victories in the 2022 elections;
- starting to confirm fair-minded judges who have demonstrated a commitment to civil rights and equal opportunity for all;
- investing heavily in our big cities and counties, where progressives hold many or most elected offices, as bastions of democracy and laboratories for forward thinking initiatives;
- tripling down on our support for young leaders -- encouraging them to run for office, preparing them for that experience, and helping them win.
Are you with us?
We know that the sinister political forces that the Trump presidency both fed on and unleashed won’t disappear overnight. And, in 2021, People For the American Way’s unparalleled ability to stop hate and defend democracy will be more important than ever.
I hope that you will continue to join us in facing these challenges and ushering in a new era for the American Way – one that upholds the principles of freedom, equity, opportunity, and justice for all.
