Dear Supporter,
Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer announced that if he wins the October election, he will cut $1.5 billion in corporate welfare spending.
It’s a great announcement. It drives taxpayers absolutely crazy when they see billions going to businesses such as Bombardier, Loblaws and Maple Leaf. Corporate welfare has to stop.
Scheer’s announcement is only a start – by some estimates federal subsidies are as much as $14 billion a year – but it’s important to make corporate welfare a key issue in this election.
The Canadian Taxpayers Federation has been fighting on this issue for years. In many cases, we’ve been the only voice criticizing these wasteful handouts. In fact, we put cutting corporate welfare on our election policy wish list.
We want to encourage all the parties to commit to a similar move – and even more importantly we want to make sure that no matter who wins the election, we can effectively pressure the next government into cutting taxpayer handouts to corporations.
We’re asking CTF supporters to do two things.
First, please thank Scheer for promising to save taxpayers money by cutting corporate welfare. You can email him here: [email protected]
Second, and this is important, our goal is to get all parties to oppose corporate welfare. So please email the other parties and encourage them to cut corporate welfare:
There’s still four weeks left until election day, and we plan to be right in the mix pushing the parties on the issues important to you.
Thank you!
- Todd, Aaron, Shannon and all of the CTF staff
P.S.: Unlike big corporations, we don’t take government handouts. The Canadian Taxpayers Federation relies entirely on donations from people like you to do our work. Please make a donation today to show your support: https://www.taxpayer.com/donate/
