John - 2020 was hard. But today, I’m not going to share the litany of challenges Americans faced. Instead, I hope to inspire you. Because while so many people were struggling, Save the Children Action Network supporters like you showed up for kids. And you helped secure some big wins for kids. Volunteers – including many students and other young people – asked presidential candidates how they would support the needs of children 200 times. As a result, all major Democratic presidential candidates, including President-elect Biden, committed to prioritizing early learning in their first 100 days of office. Then you sent emails, made calls, tweeted, and met (virtually) with members of Congress to demand that they address our growing child care crisis. The result? The House of Representatives passed the Child Care is Essential Act! And right now Congress is working on another relief package – with money for child care included. That’s huge! You made Congress pay attention to kids going hungry – generating more than 60,000 messages to Congress. And Congress listened, ensuring that kids learning remotely could still receive school meals. You generated more than 175,000 messages and comments in opposition to policies that harm migrant children seeking safety in our country. At the state level, you helped expand early childhood education programs for children in Colorado and New Mexico. Just look at what you did! And you can read even more about your victories this year on our blog. |
