Fellow Democrats,

The Oklahoma Democratic Party has suffered a great loss.  Judy Calhoun passed away last night, December 16, 2020.

The sudden and unexpected passing of our friend and fellow activist Judy Calhoun has shocked the Democratic Community in Oklahoma.  Her long career with the UAW Local 1999, and her recent work as the UAW Region 5 Benefits Coordinator was just a part of Judy’s work.  She fought for labor and unions for as long as anyone knew her. 

Judy was also active in all aspects of the Oklahoma Democratic Party, attending all state functions and never missing a national convention.  She served for decades as Secretary of the 4^th Congressional District of the Democratic Party and was on the Central Committee of the State Party for many years.

She campaigned tirelessly for Democrats and progressive issues.  Everyone has a picture with Judy in some candidate’s t-shirt with a clipboard in hand ready to do some canvassing.  She seemed to be at every event and every volunteer activity.  She was fiercely loyal to Democrats and her friends.  As a friend or a candidate…if she was for you, you never had to worry as she would always be there.  The only time she was not smiling and laughing was when she was giving an opponent the “what for”.  She is quite literally loved by hundreds of Democrats and co-workers and fellow activists. 

Hearts are breaking all over the State today…and for good reason…Judy was a pillar of loyalty and devotion to good people and good causes. We pray for strength for Judy’s family as they deal with this incredible loss.
