Hi John,

A report by New American Leaders found that state legislatures are majority white and male -- less than a third of all state legislators in 2020 were women.

The effects of this gross underrepresentation are evident: Across the country, male-dominated legislatures have restricted reproductive rights, gutted gun control laws, and threatened women’s access to affordable health care.

We wish we had better news. We wish we could say we’re doing everything we can to change this and bring more voices into the conversation. But we fell short of our state legislature fundraising goal, and if we don’t fill that gap soon, we won’t be able to support the women who are trying to change this country for the better -- one community at a time, all across the country.

The founder of New American Leaders has said that “a democracy is only as strong as the people who feel they can participate,” and let’s face it John, too many of us still feel like our voices don’t matter, because we don’t see people who look like us leading.

Believe us when we say that we can change that -- and we don’t want our limited funds to be the reason why women fail to transform a system that has benefitted a few white men for too long.
