The TPPF Take: The North Face’s virtue-signaling won’t change the world we all live in.

“Every part of our day-to-day lives and every sector of our economy depend on hydrocarbons — also known as fossil fuels," says TPPF’s Jason Isaac. “Companies who reject oil and gas to score cheap political points are either ignorant of or willfully covering up just how much affordable, reliable energy has transformed human life for the better.”

Taxpayer-Funded Lobbying

What to Know: The Dallas Morning News editorial board admits that taxpayer-funded lobbying is a dirty business: “Lobbyists almost always ask for more government spending. That’s their job. So taxpayers are paying for lobbyists to lobby for more spending which is paid for by taxpayers who pay for lobbyists, and round and round it goes.”

The TPPF Take: A ban on taxpayer-funded lobbying will not silence local elected officials or their staffs—it will only prevent them from spending public money on contract lobbyists.

“Cities, counties, and school districts are forcing taxpayers to pay for lobbyists who advocate for higher taxes, more spending, and bigger government. That’s not right,” says TPPF’s James Quintero. “Taxpayer-funded lobbying is an unethical and un-American practice. It’s time to end it.”

What to Know: Now tech giant Oracle has left California and come to Texas.

The TPPF Take: Will the last one left in Silicon Valley please turn out the lights? That is, if the state’s blackouts haven’t already done so.

“The Oracle move will add some the annual migration to Texas,” says TPPF’s Chuck DeVore. “But the fact is that thousands of small family businesses move to Texas every year from California, though few of them ever get any notice from the national media. They are mostly run by conservatives fed up with California’s high taxes and crushing regulatory burden.”
