I see the pictures of food lines that seem to go on forever.
I hear the stories of parents who skip meals so their children can eat.
And I remember what it was like to once be one of those hungry kids.
John, I remember the shame and the pain of living with hunger. And today in America 1 in 4 kids is at risk for the same hunger I experienced all those years ago.
Kids are the future of this country. In a very real sense they belong to all of us. And it's up to all of us to come together to meet their needs.
Take it from me — the uncertainty of where your next meal will come from is a scary thing, and it consumes every waking moment. I still remember what it was like, and so many families are going through it right now.
