An update on the Arctic Refuge

LEARN MORE: Earthjustice acts to prevent drilling in the Arctic Refuge: [link removed]

***********************************************************
Dear Friend,

The Trump administration has accelerated its unlawful efforts to sell drilling rights in the Arctic Refuge. It has now scheduled an oil and gas lease sale for the Refuge to be held just days before the curtain falls on its time in office, a last-minute going away present to its friends in the oil industry.

With your help, we are already fighting back. On Tuesday, Earthjustice filed an emergency injunction request — a legal action that, if successful, would require the Bureau of Land Management to halt its hasty and unlawful effort to lease the Arctic Refuge for oil and gas drilling at the eleventh hour.

And today, thanks to supporters like you, we submitted nearly 18,000 comments to the Bureau of Land Management opposing the oil lease sale.

Climate change is the greatest threat of our time, and the consequences will be severe and irreversible if we allow oil drilling to proceed in the cherished Arctic Refuge.

Earthjustice will never back down from our efforts to protect our country’s special places, and we will continue to use every available tool in this fight. Whether it’s in the courtroom, in the halls of Congress, or in the email inboxes of federal bureaucrats, we will never rest until we have permanently protected America’s Arctic.

We are taking on the world’s wealthiest and most powerful industry — the oil industry — and they are willing to spend whatever it takes to profit from the destruction of sacred places. Only with your continued support can we hold the line against the Trump administration’s last-minute attacks on our public lands.

Thank you for joining us in this fight. Together, we are going to outlast this administration and we will finally protect this irreplaceable landscape and the health of our environment.

Sincerely,
Erik Grafe
Deputy Managing Attorney
