Welcome to the Number of the DayDecember 17, 2020Nineteen percent (19%) of voters nationwide believe that illegal immigration (the term used in the survey) is good for the United States. A PoliticalIQ survey found that 60% believe illegal immigration is bad, while 21% are not sure.[1] Illegal immigration refers to the practice of entering or residing within the country in violation of federal law. This includes entering without legal permission or through the use of falsified or expired documents. At the same time, 15% of voters believe that legal immigration is bad for the nation. Seventy percent (70%) take the opposite view, while 14% are not sure.[1] A majority of every measured demographic group believes that legal immigration is good for the nation. That includes 79% of Democrats, 67% of Independents, and 63% of Republicans.[1] As for illegal immigration, a majority of most demographic groups believe that it is bad for the nation. There are two exceptions—Black voters and Democrats.[1] Among Black voters and Democrats, a plurality sees illegal immigration as bad for the nation. Forty-one percent (41%) of Black voters hold that view, while 31% see it as good. The numbers are almost identical for Democrats.[1] About the Number of the DayEach weekday, Scott Rasmussen’s Number of the Day explores interesting and newsworthy topics at the intersection of culture, politics, and technology.
