We can all agree that we're glad to see 2020 go. But with 2021 just around the corner, it's time to get ready for our next big fight: redistricting.
Early next year, states around the country will begin redrawing their electoral maps. We know GOP-controlled state legislatures will try to use this as an opportunity to draw districts that keep them in power -- regardless of how many votes they receive.
"One thing I think you can have...is a situation where one party may get more votes for their state House chamber or state Senate chamber but still have fewer seats overall." -- NPR

Right now, about one in five Americans live in a state where Democrats won a majority of votes but Republicans won more state legislative seats. If Republicans get their way, they'll increase that number so they can maintain control of state governments and of Congress, no matter how unpopular their ideas become.
We have the power to fight back, friend. Because of our hard work at the NDRC to elect Democrats to governors' mansions and state legislatures, and to pass bi-partisan redistricting reforms, we are in a much stronger position headed into redistricting in 2021 than we were in 2011.
But this fight isn't over yet, and we can't take anything for granted. The NDRC is assembling a coalition of grassroots supporters to hold our elected leaders accountable to ensure fair maps are drawn. Will you join us today by supporting our efforts with your first donation?
