We have until Friday to overpower Mitch McConnell.

Dear Friend,

Time is running out for Congress to rush emergency aid to workers and small businesses.

The House and the Senate have a deadline of Friday at midnight to pass a government funding bill, and they are trying to attach a COVID-19 stimulus.1 But, despite reports that a deal may be close, it isn’t done yet—and we don’t trust Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to not blow it up at the last minute to help his corporate allies.2

If Congress doesn’t pass COVID relief, as many as 40 million people could be evicted on January 1.3 We can’t let McConnell push millions of people into homelessness. It’s all hands on deck—we must get COVID relief funding passed NOW—and without McConnell’s massive expansion of corporate power.

Will you donate to help push emails and calls to the Senate demanding immediate COVID-19 relief and stimulus checks without McConnell’s corporate liability shields?

Here’s what’s happening: Months ago, Congress passed a continuing resolution to fund the government, but that resolution runs out now. If our representatives don’t pass a new resolution or a complete funding bill by Friday, funding runs out, and the government shuts down.

The House is trying to use this opportunity to force McConnell and his do-nothing Senate to pass badly needed coronavirus relief.4 Because Congress hasn’t passed a COVID bill since last March, federal unemployment benefits ran out in July. Sick leave pay reimbursements run out this month. And the eviction moratorium runs out on December 31, putting tens of millions of people at risk of losing their homes on January 1.5

Mitch McConnell has refused to bring any new coronavirus relief plan to a vote unless it includes a retroactive shield from coronavirus-related lawsuits for corporations.6 Recent reports suggest he may be ready to cave on that demand—but nothing is final yet, and McConnell is still coming under pressure from corporate lobbyists.

McConnell likes to call himself the Grim Reaper of legislation because he stops so many bills.7 But if we don’t put unbearable pressure on McConnell to let a liability-shield-free COVID relief bill pass this week, McConnell might be responsible for the death of more than just bills.

Will you rush a donation to help call on Congress to pass liability-shield-free COVID relief legislation?

Thanks for standing with us.
