Our nation is hurting -- people are losing jobs, struggling to put food on the table, falling behind on rent, and every single day, hearing news that their loved ones are sick or gone.

We've lost over a quarter-million Americans to this pandemic, and many more continue to fight for their lives. In fact, four of the days from earlier this month were among the deadliest in the entire pandemic, and we're only just starting to see the spike that is sure to come from holiday gatherings.

You would think, with such devastation, there would be a quick and decisive response from our government. Well -- no such luck.

Congress has stalled for months and locked up needed relief aid, all while our people are struggling.

This is unacceptable.

While House Democrats passed the HEROES Act, which would put American workers front and center, Senate Republicans refused to take action. Instead, they packed up their bags and went on vacation -- leaving our citizens with no relief as cases soared.

We need direct payments to Americans, support for local governments, hazard pay for essential workers, and economic protection for those too sick to work.

Right now, California's eviction moratorium is set to expire in less than 60 days, putting 2 million people at risk of losing their homes. Not only will this leave families with no place to go this winter, it will also facilitate further spread of the virus.

We're only months away from a vaccine. We can get through this. Let's stop the unnecessary suffering at the hands of political gridlock.
