Dear Friend,

Every member has the right to choose what they place their left hand on when swearing in; most choose either the Bible, or a similar religious text, depending on how they identify. However, some choose to place their left hand on the United States Constitution.

The Secular Coalition for America (SCA) applauds those members who choose to use the Constitution for their oath taking, and encourages all Members of Congress to do the same. After all, it is the United States Constitution that they are swearing allegiance to, and not their religions. Also, it would acknowledge and include those constituents who may practice a different faith or none at all.

Request your Representatives be representative!

The Secular Coalition for America respectfully asks that you contact your representatives in Washington and encourage them to use the United States Constitution when taking their oath this January 3rd.

With the rollout of our ambitious agenda for the coming Congress, we here at SCA are as excited as we have ever been about the prospects for making real change and advancing our shared secular values in Washington, DC. We know that big things are on the horizon, but we need the help of trusted allies like yourself to make it happen!
