Looking to the ocean for climate solutions? ? ? ? Friend,

The climate crisis continues to devastate the ocean. As greenhouse gas emissions increase, the ocean has become hotter, more acidic, and less habitable for fish and wildlife. But the ocean is not just a victim of climate change. It's also a powerful source of solutions.

That's why LCV is inviting you to learn more about the impacts of the climate crisis on the ocean, and what's next in the fight to save our waters. Join a distinguished panel of policymakers, experts, and community leaders tomorrow, December 17th at 12 pm ET [link removed] to dive deeper into ocean climate action. This conversation is in partnership with the Center for American Progress and the Ocean Defense Initiative and features LCV Board Chair and former EPA Administrator Carol Browner and House Natural Resources Committee Chair Ra?l Grijalva (AZ-3). Over the last two years, our congressional champions in the House have been leading the charge on climate action, from holding the Trump administration accountable to putting forward science-based solutions to combat the climate crisis. And this year, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris ran on a bold climate platform and defeated the most anti-environment president in history, presenting a new opportunity to meaningfully and equitably address the existential threat of climate change.

Recognizing the power of the ocean as a climate solution, Chair Grijalva recently introduced the Ocean-Based Climate Solutions Act. It calls for investing in ocean-based renewable energy, protecting 30% of the ocean by 2030, ending offshore drilling, and restoring coastal ecosystems, all of which will reduce carbon emissions, protect coastal communities, and revive ocean ecosystems.

By implementing a full suite of ocean-based climate solutions, we can help support frontline communities most at risk from climate change, increase the resilience of ocean ecosystems, and put the United States back in a leadership role in the global effort to fight the climate crisis.
