John—

This is urgent. Congressional leaders, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, are negotiating on a new COVID-19 relief package right now . Right now, $1.8 billion—not nearly enough funding—is set to go toward long-term services and supports (LTSS), including salaries and paid sick leave for care workers, personal protective equipment (PPE), and voluntary transition of people from congregate care, like nursing homes, to their homes and communities.

But that funding might get the axe, leaving the seniors, people with disabilities, and family caregivers who rely on LTSS and the care workers who work in those systems without relief they need during this deadly pandemic. John, we need you to make an urgent call to Senator McConnell and Speaker Pelosi and demand they keep funding for LTSS in the COVID relief bill. [[link removed]]

LTSS can look like many things, from the home care worker who comes every week to care for your disabled cousin to to the person who stops by to make sure your mom is taking the right medication while you're at work. If funding for LTSS is cut, people who are high-risk for COVID-19 and frontline workers will not have the care, equipment, and support they need to be safe during one of the most dangerous times in this pandemic. We cannot let our leadership abandon frontline care workers—who are disproportionately Black women and women of color and immigrants—and people who rely on long-term care.

Make an urgent call to protect funding for long-term services and supports! [[link removed]]

Your call can make a real difference. And it's easy. Once you fill out the form, you will receive a call from us that connects you to the offices of Senator McConnell and Speaker Pelosi. We'll even give you a script to follow when you speak to a person in the office or leave a message.

Thank you,

P.S. Not only is $1.8 billion not even close to the amount needed to fund these programs, care worker salaries, and provide PPE... but this bill also leaves out critical funding for childcare and an expansion of paid family and medical leave, a program which has been proven to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
