Dear John,

As the world moves through the holiday season, about 12 million of the 20 million unemployed people in this country are scheduled to lose their benefits unless lawmakers act before the end of the year. Many of these millions are in low-income households of color, which have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic.

With your gift to Prosperity Now today [[link removed]], you can help ensure that households and communities of color have the support they need to ensure continued financial stability during this time of crisis.

At Prosperity Now, our goal is a fair and just economy that is free from structural inequity and racism. The economy should be one where everyone can fully participate across their life cycles, households can build sustainable wealth through generations and communities can prosper without exception.

We are closer to reaching this goal, because of you. Your support has made a significant impact on the lives of some of the most economically vulnerable households this year by allowing us to listen to our partners, pivot our programs, innovate and flexibly respond to the needs of our partners. Together in 2020 we:

Supported our Taxpayer Opportunity Network of 6,300 VITA programs and stakeholders to identify creative ways of engaging taxpayers and preparing tax returns beyond the traditional face-to-face service delivery model; we also provided direct financial support through subgrants of $800,000 to 63 VITA programs in the most vulnerable communities.

Provided webinars to nearly 700 partners and direct technical assistance to 50 organizations so that they could shift their financial capability, asset building and empowerment services from in-person to virtual; we also supported them as they designed new processes to ensure clients got the services they needed.

Engaged 75 organizations led by and serving people of color in 14 cities in 11 states through our Building High Impact Nonprofits of Color Initiative, and expanded in Minneapolis and Seattle, bringing five organizations from each city into the initiative.

Distributed more than $170,000 to 18 1:1 Fund partners to address fundraising gaps, provide emergency assistance to participating families, offer virtual learning support and give financial assistance to current college students.

Leveraged our Scorecard and advocacy tools as a founding member of the Page 30 Coalition to push an ambitious agenda ensuring critical constituencies recognized by the CARES Act receive the long-term relief and investment they need.

Hosted our biannual Prosperity Summit, bringing together more than 1,400 representatives of leading nonprofits, foundations, financial institutions, corporations, academic institutions and governments to learn about and advance asset building in the United States.

The full scale of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent economic impact have not been fully realized, but we know that the effects are, and will continue to be, deeply felt by families across the nation.

Please donate today [[link removed]] to ensure that all households can make it into the new year knowing they can access the support they need to get ahead, no matter what the circumstances.

With gratitude,

Gary L. Cunningham
