Real Justice

They're scared, John.

We just learned that the Police Protective League — Los Angeles Police Department’s largest union — is looking to raise at least $10 million to support anti-reform candidates in 2022 and fight against efforts to defund the police.

“The Police Protective League, which represents about 9,800 officers, mailed its members ballots last week asking them to donate $22 per paycheck for the next 48 weeks to help the union support its allies, attack those it views as enemies and inform the public of the dangers associated with eliminating hundreds of positions at the LAPD.”

That’s a whole lotta money they’re spending to protect an unjust system. The LAPD is clearly upset about our recent victory in Los Angeles and the bold reform agenda DA George Gascón is leading right now to end mass incarceration and hold police accountable.

Police unions spent over FIVE million to defeat George, and still they lost. But now, they’re out for vengeance — preparing EARLY and BIG to defeat reform candidates like George and squash the movement to defund the police.

I’m not intimidated one bit, but it’s urgent we show that this movement is ready to fight back. Will you chip in $22 (what the PPL is asking from their supporters) or anything you can to help us continue electing reform champions to office and fighting for police accountability?

Chip in now

Ever since George was sworn into office, he’s been passing HISTORIC policies to end mass incarceration, stop the use of the death penalty, get rid of cash bail, hold the police accountable, and so much more.

The reforms George is passing will have a life-changing impact on the millions of people who live in Los Angeles county. And they are signaling a paradigm shift among how DAs and reform advocates can approach this role in the justice system.

Real Justice supporters helped make this happen. Together, we made sure George’s team had the resources they needed to fight against police union money and spread his bold message for change.

George’s win is a huge victory — but today’s news is a harsh reminder that our fight isn’t over yet. Police unions, anti-reform groups, and GOP leaders are now working in tandem to halt our momentum and stop our movement from electing more leaders like George.

Can you make a donation right now to fund our work electing more reform-minded District Attorneys like George and help us send a message that this movement isn’t slowing down one bit?

Keep fighting,
Chris
