Dear Friend,

Yesterday I was in New York City amongst a crowd of at least 250,000, though it felt like millions, of primarily young people who were standing up and raising their voices to protect our collective future.

We arrived at the march assembly point pretty early on, so were able to watch as the crowd streamed in – large groups of kids coming from all different directions with drums, homemade signs, banners, chants, flags. They had so much energy – some as young as 4 or 5 years old!

The school strikes that were organized all over the country were organized by young people. Our work at March On, which is to support them, had been done already -- and so I got to watch, like a proud fairy god sister, the largest youth-led climate mobilization in history unfold before me.

This is my dream – literally all I ever want to do is hold up the megaphone for the next generation (and maybe teach them a couple of new chants while I’m at it).

“Who got power? We got power!

What kind of power? People power!”

🤘❤️⚫️

The numbers are still coming in but we know that in the US there were upwards of 600,000 people at over 1200 individual strikes. And globally there were over 4,000 strikes –a total of over 4 million people in the streets.

Please join us to talk about next steps with these extraordinary youth leaders on a mass strike wrap-up call happening this Sunday, September 22nd at 8:30pm EST / 5:30pm PST.

Register for the call here.

During the call, we’ll be sharing more on how the strike went across the country, details on more ways you can engage with the climate movement, and information on the next strike.

We need to support these fierce young activists. It’s a moral imperative to be there for them -- the system we have right now benefited us in the past, but it will not serve them. We have to help them fix it.

In solidarity,

Penelope
