Hi John,

Five years ago, world leaders signed the historic Paris Climate Agreement,
and agreed to work together to prevent a climate catastrophe. Right now,
we should be celebrating 5 years of global climate action.

But progress to keep global warming under 1.5°C has been too slow. Global
greenhouse gas emissions keep rising. Catastrophic climate impacts have
become the new normal.

In the past five years, banks and governments have poured hundreds of
billions of pounds of public money into the fossil fuel industry
responsible for the climate crisis.

We don’t have to look far for examples. Despite boasting about their Net
Zero commitment, UK bank Barclays pumped more money into fossil fuels in
2020 than they did in 2019.[ [link removed] ] Meanwhile the Bank of England propped up
polluting industries with billions of pounds during the pandemic, with no
conditions attached to protect workers or the climate.[ [link removed] ]

[1]John, we know that to prevent devastating climate breakdown,
we have to end all finance to fossil fuels. We’re taking stock and
planning which fights to take on next year. You are a vital part of the
success of our work, and we want to hear from you. Please take this short
survey and share your opinion.

Already 5 years ago, we knew that it was up to us in the climate justice
movement to lead the fight against the power of the fossil fuel industry.
Since then our global movement has grown bigger, broader, and more
diverse. We’ve seen major wins and unprecedented mobilisations. But
despite this, the climate crisis is getting more and more urgent. We need
to keep fighting.

John, the fight to keep global heating to below 1.5 degrees,
and stop the worst impacts of climate breakdown, will be won or lost
within our lifetime. What we do right now matters.

At 350.org, we fight for climate justice by going after the money that
funds the big polluters’ dirty coal, oil and gas business. No money to
fossil fuels means no new dirty projects, less pollution, and a real
chance to prevent further climate disasters.

In 2021 we’re coming together across the UK and the world to pressure the
world’s dirtiest and most powerful banks and governments to stop funding
the climate crisis. John, these plans depend on you, too.
Please take 5 minutes to fill this survey. We will use our collective
knowledge to shape our plans, and make sure we choose the right battles in
2021.

In the midst of a health and economic emergency, a green and just recovery
will only be possible if our money is invested in real climate solutions,
in healthier and more equitable jobs, in supporting communities across the
globe, and in protecting the planet. Your action helps our community plan
how to make that happen.

Thanks for being a part of this fight,

Anna for the 350.org team
