President Trump’s traitorous and fact-free attempt to overturn the will of American voters failed.

That he even tried at all is one of the many reasons I pushed so hard for impeachment.

The rule of law and our democracy are not guaranteed if we don’t fight to protect them. That’s why my duty demanded that I do everything in my power to impeach President Trump and let the historical record show that Democrats in Congress are not ok with an unaccountable tyrant as president.

Instead of accepting reality after Trump lost, Republicans encouraged his delusions, continuing their cowardly pattern throughout the administration of covering for abuse of power and foreign interference in our democracy. Their behavior is the very definition of placing partisanship over the national security interests of the United States and is fundamentally traitorous.

Luckily, democracy prevailed yesterday. But, given Republican betrayal of democracy, it’s clear that we must stay vigilant and hold them accountable in the next Congress.
