By supporting Polaris during this Transform Matching Gift Campaign, you help us provide support to individual victims and survivors, and expand and deepen our work to go bigger – reducing the volume of trafficking by preventing it in the first place. The U.S National Trafficking Hotline, which Polaris has operated for more than a dozen years, answers calls for help 24 hours a day, seven days a week. But the Trafficking Hotline can only help those who are ready to seek support and leave their trafficking situations. It is time to go bigger, to tackle the broken governmental, political, social and economic systems that enable these abuses in the first place.
Poverty, homelessness, discrimination, fear, and a culture of violence all create an environment ripe for exploitation of vulnerable people. It’s time to stop treating the symptoms and start addressing these root causes – to broaden our focus from response to prevention.
