Blue Dog Leadership Statement on Reports of Imminent COVID-19 Relief Deal



WASHINGTON—Today, Rep. Lou Correa (CA-46), the Blue Dog Coalition’s Co-Chair for Communications, issued the following statement in response to reports<[link removed]> of an imminent deal on a fifth COVID-19 relief package:



“For months, we have urged leadership of both parties to come together to reach a deal on a fifth COVID-19 relief package that can be signed into law right now. We applaud the efforts of the Problem Solvers Caucus to break the gridlock to deliver results for the American people, and we are encouraged that the leadership of both parties in both chambers of Congress are very close to reaching a deal. We reiterate our position that neither the House nor the Senate should go home for the holidays until a bipartisan, bicameral agreement is made and a bill is sent to the President’s desk for a signature. This should not be Congress’ last act in response to the ongoing crisis. A deal today should be a building block toward another deal under the leadership of President-elect Joe Biden.”

The Blue Dog Coalition also announced its endorsement of the Problem Solvers Caucus’ (PSC) bipartisan, bicameral $908 billion COVID-19 relief framework<[link removed]>, which serves as a roadmap for leadership of both parties to reach a bipartisan, bicameral deal on a fifth COVID-19 relief package. The Blue Dog Coalition was the first House Democratic caucus to call on House and Senate leadership to restart bipartisan negotiations on a fifth COVID-19 relief package in an August 21 letter<[link removed]>, and has continued to urge leadership of both parties to come together to produce bipartisan, bicameral legislation that can be implemented immediately to address the ongoing crisis.
