Dear John,
The transportation sector is currently the largest and fastest growing GHG-emitting sector in the U.S. economy. Which is why decarbonizing transportation is critical to combating the climate crisis. Corporations that operate and manage large vehicle fleets can have a significant impact on the transition to a cleaner transportation system. Shifting fleets of corporate vehicles from internal combustion engines to electric cars and trucks is essential for long-term success in the 21st century; however, barriers to fleet electrification still exist.
Ceres launched the Corporate Electric Vehicle Alliance to help overcome these hurdles and make the transition to electric vehicles even more cost-effective, efficient and impactful.
Since launching the Ceres Corporate Electric Vehicle Alliance earlier this year, it’s grown to 20 corporate members, including Amazon, AT&T, Best Buy, DHL, Exelon, IKEA, Siemens, National Grid, and Uber, demonstrating the growing demand for electric vehicle fleets.
The group released today a first-ever set of fleet electrification principles, aimed at providing guidance on what auto and truck manufacturers, regulators, policymakers, and utilities can and must do to advance the commercial electric vehicle market. |
The principles that support corporate electrification are:
-
Greater variety and volume of zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) model options
-
Access to cost-effective charging infrastructure and flexible rates
-
More transparency on new model release timing and availability
-
Upfront cost parity with ICE vehicles
-
Integrated access to renewable energy
-
Improved coordination with and support from electric power companies and utility regulators
-
Strategically sited and widely available charging infrastructure
-
Technology interoperability and streamlined charging standards
-
Employee commute & regional transportation decarbonization
|
These principles represent the collective priorities of a cross section of major companies with significant vehicle fleets across a wide array of industries and geographic regions.
We’re looking forward to advancing the work of the Corporate Electric Vehicle Alliance with these principles guiding the way, and we’re confident we can use them to create a just and sustainable transportation future. |
Thank you,
|
