Too many residents are suffering; too many people are at risk of eviction and homelessness. How COVID-impacted communities emerge in 2021 from the evictions crisis depends on the strength of our advocacy to disrupt the status quo. The pandemic has unleashed rapid changes in housing stability and health outcomes for low income residents. We must be sure that the public and philanthropic response is timely and adequate to meet these urgent needs, so we have our work cut out for us. Our mission is clear: to promote healthy, sustainable and
equitable communities that meet the diverse housing needs of Northern
Virginia's low and moderate income residents; and the availability of quality housing that is affordable is foundational to that outcome.
As Northern Virginia emerges from the pandemic, a strong voice will be needed to preserve affordable housing and protect residents from displacement. Budgets at the local and state level must align with the priorities of housing, health and racial equity. NVAHA will continue to be a leading advocate to deconstruct land use systems that restrict full housing choice for minority and low income residents, and we will challenge the power imbalance in community decision-making. However, our ability to continue this work depends on your financial support. We are grateful for those who have supported us in the past. Now we ask you to join the effort to hold ourselves and our elected leaders accountable to our goals and donate to NVAHA.
