The Electoral College has cast its votes and officially declared Joe Biden the next president of the United States -- but Trump's allies still have a last-minute election reversal attempt up their sleeves.

The New York Times reports that "as the president continues to refuse to concede, a small group of his most loyal backers in Congress is plotting a final-stage challenge on the floor of the House of Representatives in early January to try to reverse Mr. Biden's victory."

Listen, we're sure you're as tired of this absurdity as we are. Over 80 million Americans voted for Joe Biden, and he's going to be the rightful 46th president of our country. There was no election fraud like Trump and his allies would have us believe, and we know it.

Even though many "say the effort is all but certain to fail," as The Times points out, there's no telling the damage this final attempt at reversing the election results could deal our democracy along the way. Trump's baseless election fraud lies have wreaked havoc on our electoral process already. "The fight," according to The Times, "promises to shape how Mr. Trump's base views the election for years to come."

We can't forget that Trump's base is still a large one: Over 74 million Americans wanted him to serve another term. We can't kid ourselves -- Trump's legacy isn't going away anytime soon.
