Friend,

Asian American voters helped to give Joe Biden Georgia. But now many AAPI activists are worried.

The Republicans are gunning for the Georgia Senate runoffs. If they win, they’ll regain control of the chamber and get a free pass to obstruct President-elect Biden’s agenda. They’ll stop us from enacting immigration reform, block our attempts at fixing health care, and keep selling out our human rights, reproductive freedom, and environmental future in exchange for another term in power.

Here’s why we’re still in this thing. Joe Biden won Gwinnett County by 18 points. That’s triple the margin Hillary had in 2016 -- want to know why? It’s because, as The New York Times reports, 41% of Asian American voters in the county’s district were first-time voters -- meaning Democrats successfully conducted voter outreach, responded to values and priorities with policies and solutions, and expanded the electorate in the Deep South.

But Georgia is NOT a blue state yet. In fact, right now, it’s barely purple. As Cam Ashling, an AAPI Democratic strategist on the ground in Georgia, reports: “We have to try very hard to keep Georgia blue. It is not solid.”

Of course, it’s not solid. Republicans are swarming the state with cash, attempting to launch targeted advertising campaigns toward AAPI voters the same way they targeted voters of color in Florida’s Miami-Dade county -- to great success.

In short, after November, the GOP has no shame -- and we have no money. You came through for us by donating to support increased voter outreach during the general election, and it WORKED. Now we need the same for the Georgia special elections. The only difference is that fewer Democrats will be paying attention after the presidential victory. Which is exactly what the Republicans want.
