If you aren’t alarmed by the fact that Trump won in 2016 despite losing the popular vote by 3 million votes -- and that he came close to winning again, even though he had 7 million fewer votes than Joe Biden -- then you should be.
 
We need to change this system. “The obvious answer is a national popular vote for president, whether through constitutional amendment or a state-by-state agreement,” a Washington Post op-ed explains, “... but both will require Republican buy-in.” And that won’t be so easy to get, considering how much the right relies on the status quo.
 
“The status quo may endanger democracy, but it helps Republicans politically,” the WaPo op-ed reads. “And in the Grand Old Party, the party is what matters -- more than the country.”
