Dear John,
The village of Deerfield, Illinois reasonably wanted to keep military-style assault weapons off their streets and out of their community. When the village banned these weapons, gun lobby groups nearly immediately went to court to get the law struck down. Brady Legal, along with the Perkins Coie law firm, has defended Deerfield and their right to enact common-sense public safety laws since 2018 and we just received news of a huge win:
The Appellate Court for the Second District of Illinois upheld the right of the village of Deerfield, IL to maintain its ban on assault-style weapons. John, this is a consequential decision for the safety of the people of Deerfield.
We are ecstatic that the court will uphold the village’s ban, but this is not the end of our case. Brady Legal will continue to fight for the safety of Deerfield in court and the safety of all Americans across the country.
Assault weapons are the first choice for mass shooters. That’s because they are designed for mass destruction — to kill as many people as possible, as quickly as possible. Whether it is Sandy Hook, Parkland, or Las Vegas, we have seen these assault-style weapons used in the deadliest shooting in American history.
We want to ensure that all Americans are safe from life-threatening military assault weapons, and we are ready to get to work on a new Assault Weapons Ban on Day One of the Biden-Harris administration. But, we can’t do it without your support. We need your input to set our priorities for the work ahead. John, will you take 2-3 minutes to complete this survey? >>
How important to you is it that we pass a federal ban on assault weapons?
Thank you for your steadfast support.
