It’s an honor to be chosen to serve as your next Lieutenant Governor, and I'm excited to step into this role and continue to build a better Kansas for all.
This job won't be easy, but I know that together, Laura and I will be able to continue the work she started with Lynn. I’m so grateful to work alongside the “Economic Development Governor” as we continue to build on the state’s business development successes and accelerate the state’s economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
I also want to thank each and every one of you for the warm welcomes I've received as I prepare to step into this new role. I know I have big shoes to fill but now I want to take a moment to share some of my priorities as your Lt. Governor:
* Economic prosperity: jobs and economic growth have never been more important than now, and building on the tremendous gains of the economic development team at the Department of Commerce will continue to be my focus going forward.
* Expanding broadband: our rural communities are struggling without access to reliable internet. Expanding broadband access is the first step to prioritizing high-speed internet access is in every single home and business across the state.
* Increasing access to healthcare: we need to expand Medicaid and protect our rural hospitals so every Kansan can receive quality, affordable healthcare.
* Rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure: it's time we invest in ensuring our roads and bridges are safe to travel on.
* Supporting our schools: Laura has already started getting our schools back on track -- but we have more work to do and I'm committed to making sure our schools are funded and our students are receiving a top-notch education.
Our work is only beginning, but I'm confident we will be successful.
