Ten years ago, fewer than 10 states had legalized marriage for same-sex couples. Five years later in 2015, marriage became the law of the land thanks to a historic Supreme Court decision.

As the national partner to the state-based LGBTQ movement, Equality Federation was there for heartbreaking losses and groundbreaking wins as each state fought for our right to marry whom we love. From Proposition 8 in California to the first three states to pass marriage equality at the ballot box: Maine, Maryland, and Washington, we were there.

We are seeing opposition in states trying to weaken our marriages as well as a hostile Supreme Court that seems intent on chipping away at our overall rights.
