Hi there,

Some Democrats are already opposing Biden's pick to lead the Pentagon, Retired Army Gen. Lloyd Austin, who would be the first Black secretary of defense.

The opposition comes down to a disagreement over whether or not Austin should be granted a waiver to fill the position, one that would exempt him from having "to be at least seven years removed from the military," POLITICO reports. Austin retired four years ago.

Except the controversy doesn't seem to be that much of a problem -- POLITICO notes that key Republicans have already said they'd be in support of granting Austin the exemption, just like an exemption was granted for Trump's first defense secretary. And the hesitancy from certain Democrats seems to stem more from breaching standard practice than opposition to Austin as head of the Pentagon.

Trump asked for a lot more than just a waiver for a defense secretary, and in some ways we're glad that our politicians are arguing over this -- it shows a return to normal politics. But now is an extremely abnormal time, and we should keep democratic in-fighting to a minimum -- because we know the GOP will usually be in lockstep opposition to our goals. With just over a month left until Biden's inauguration, it's time to come together to push Trump out of the White House once and for all and usher Biden in. But do you agree? Tell us how you feel now:

Should Democrats be more united?
