Inside Climate News: "Not Waiting for Public Comment, Trump Administration Schedules Lease Sale for Arctic Wildlife Refuge"
Friends,
We didn’t think the Trump administration could stoop any lower in its plot to auction off public lands in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to Big Oil corporations. But then the Bureau of Land Management announced that a leasing sale for the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge would be held without allowing sufficient time for actual public comments.
If that weren’t bad enough, the Interior Department is also refusing to accept public comments online -- instead, they’re requiring the public to physically mail or hand-deliver them. This is both incredibly onerous and non-transparent. When the online portal is used, anyone can read public comments as they come in. By requiring comments to be delivered physically, the Trump administration can easily conceal their content.
The Trump administration knows their plan to open up the Arctic to drilling is extremely unpopular. But, rather than face the public, their plan is to silence us. This is unacceptable, friends. Help us shine a light on what President Trump is doing by sharing our posts on social media:
