Weekly Parliamentary Diary
Cardiff Climate Strike
I was proud to join the thousands of climate strikers in Cardiff including a huge number of young people, who came together to loudly and clearly demand action to tackle the climate emergency.

We need urgent and radical action at all levels of Government to address this climate emergency.

I will be holding my own Climate Community Summit this Autumn to bring local communities, schools, businesses, local groups and organisations together to discuss how we can take action and help bring about the change that is needed to meet the climate challenge we are facing.

For further information and if you'd like to be involved, or like your school, organisation or community group to be involved please contact me at: [email protected] quoting Climate Community Summit.
Hundreds Join me to Rally for Remain
On Saturday over 500 people joined me to send a clear message to Downing Street that their voices will be heard and they want to remain a member of the EU.

Cardiff North voted decisively to Remain in 2016, three years on and the constituency's resolve has strengthened and people from all backgrounds, walks of life and across the political divide turned out to support Remain and campaign with me.

Speaking alongside me were Julie Morgan AM, Jackie Jones MEP, Rev. Aled Edwards and Chair of Wales for Europe, Geraint Talfan Davies.

I would like to say a huge thank you to all those who turned out, it was great to see so much support for remaining as full members of the European Union.

The people deserve the final say on Brexit and I will be your Remain champion.

You can see my speech to the event below and read a summary on my website here.
People's Vote Rally in Newport
On Friday I joined a group of cross-party MPs to speak at a People's Vote Rally in Newport.

We were united around a clear message. We demand a people's vote, not just because a No Deal Brexit would be disastrous for our country, but because it's the right thing to do. I want my children to grow up in an open, inclusive, internationalist world, not a world of hatred, division and damaging populism.

We will continue to work across the political divide, we deserve a final say and we will be heard.

A clip from my speech can be viewed below.

Suspension of Parliament and Voting Against A No Deal Brexit
Boris Johnson's unlawful suspension of Parliament was no more than a squalid attempt to crash us out of the EU with a No Deal Brexit.

Prior to Parliament's suspension, I voted in support of the Hilary Benn Bill to prevent a No Deal Brexit and voted against a General Election on Boris Johnson's terms.

I will not stand by and let Boris Johnson crash us out with a disastrous No Deal Brexit.

Speaking Out Against the Prorogation of Parliament
Boris Johnson's decision to prorogue Parliament is fundamentally undemocratic. He is shamelessly running away from scrutiny. In silencing Parliament, he is attempting to silence the people. Thousands of my constituents signed the petition against this. I spoke in the Westminster Hall debate to voice my dismay at the decision to silence Parliament at this critical period in our futures.

I will continue to protect the livelihoods and futures of the people of Cardiff North that I was elected to represent.

We are waiting to hear the result of the Supreme Court case next week, of which I am proud to be supporting as one of the petitioners to the Scottish case.
Highlighting Boris Johnson's Disreputable Behaviour in Parliament
Trust is crucial to international diplomacy and in threatening a catastrophic No Deal Brexit and non-payment of the EU Divorce Bill, Boris Johnson is acting dishonestly and disreputably. I used a question to the Foreign Secretary to highlight this behaviour.

Johnson's reckless and populist behaviour has damaged the international reputation of the UK.
The Need for a Well-being of Future Generations Act for the UK
I am proud to have helped develop the Welsh Government's Well-being of Future Generations Act, which has made such a difference to people's lives in Wales.

I asked the Wales Minister Kevin Foster if the UK Government follow Wales's example and enshrine long term decision making processes into law.

The Welsh Act reconfigures political processes to take a long term perspective with the future at its heart. This gives Government a legal obligation to improve social, cultural, environmental and economic well-being in all of its policy decisions.

You can see question to the Minister above and can find out more on The Well-being of Future Generations here
Joining Welsh MPs to Save Orb Steelworks
I joined other Welsh MPs and Community Union to show solidarity with the workforce at the Orb steelworks and to stand up for this strategically important site.

I joined my colleagues in calling on the Government and Tata Steel to keep the Orb works open and to present plans to save our steel industry which have suffered such setbacks in recent years.
Signing The Times's Clean Air for All Campaign
I signed The Times Clean Air for All campaign in Parliament. The campaign aims to tackle Britain's air quality pollution crisis and demand the Government to take urgent action to update the Clean Air Act.

I will continue to fight for more legislation to limit air pollution in the UK as part of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Air Quality.
Whitchurch Primary Students Visit Parliament
Whitchurch Primary School in my constituency of Cardiff North recently visited Parliament.

I hope the kids had a wonderful time learning all about the history of Parliament and the role of MP's, as well as spending time in the first class education centre facilities.
Women's Charter Event
It was great to take part at the Women's Charter Event organised by Baroness Anita Gale and Chaired by Julie Morgan AM.

We had a number of insightful discussions on how to ensure that women have their voice heard at all levels of society and in public office. It is crucial that women's voices are heard within the Labour Party to ensure equality of representation. I’m keen to work with my Labour colleagues to ensure we improve on this.
