Hey John,
The holiday season can be really hard for many of us. Family and personal issues aside, the holidays often involve a lot of animal suffering. For those of us who are committed to justice and animal liberation we must find ways to disrupt and denormalize speciesism and change the way animals are treated. Join us at this week's Meetup: How You can Denormalize Speciesism to discuss one tool we can use to disrupt speciesism. The event will take place this Saturday, December 19th, at 11AM. See the event page for Zoom link instructions.
If you're interested in getting more involved in this active community, apply to become a chapter member at dxe.io/apply.
Here are the other events we have happening this week (all will be taking place in Pacific Time, unless otherwise noted).
- Tuesday, December 15th, 6 PM: Community Discussion on Cancel Culture -What better way to celebrate the holidays than with a discussion on cancel culture? Does DxE have a cancel culture? What are people's thoughts on it? Is it the best thing in the world or the worst? Come and share with your fellow chapter member/organizers. The community committee would like to hear thoughts on this subject that has been brought up more than a handful of times. We will be meditating, reading a passage, and then having open discussion. You may come to event after the meditation (first 20 min ) if you'd like. See the event page for Zoom link instructions.
- Wednesday, December 16th, 10PM: Memorial Pig Vigil for Regan Russell - Bay Area Animal Save, Stockton Animal Save, and DxE are collaborating and having a memorial vigil for Regan Russell at a pig slaughterhouse in Stockton this Wednesday night. We will be meeting 4221 E Mariposa Rd, Stockton, CA 95215.
- Saturday, December 19th, 4 PM: Let Dairy Die: Protest at Costco - DxE’s latest investigation shows shocking footage from a Costco dairy supplier. Newborn calves were taken from their mothers and roughly transported to hutches, pushed, prodded, and dragged by their ears and limbs. We will be protesting at Costco to show solidarity, to elevate the findings of the investigation and to demand an end to this violent industry! We are meeting at Franklin Square Park, San Francisco.
- Sunday, December 20th, 10:30 AM: How to Change the World in One Generation: DxE Intro workshop - Join us for a bike party around Berkeley to raise awareness about DxE’s campaign to place a moratorium on slaughterhouses and factory farms in California. The ride is meant to be upbeat and FUN, to the point where streetgoers will wish they were a part! Megaphones will help us to lead chants, and signs (you can bike with) are encouraged! While we will provide some materials, personalized signs are welcomed and encouraged! We are meeting at the Downtown Berkeley BART Station.
- Sunday, December 20th, 12PM: Community Food Serve - Join us on Sunday December 20th to hand out food, water, and blankets to our houseless neighbors in need. Please see the event page details on how to obtain the meeting location.
