Education is the "WHY" for Austin James from Chicago, IL who uses OAC resources to spread awareness through his art...
In September of 2018, Austin James created an art installation in memory of his late brother, Justin, whose life and health were affected by serious obesity. In a piece for OAC Community Perspectives, Austin details how, through his art, he was able to make peace with the absence of his brother, who struggled for years with obesity. Austin’s piece, a collage of family photographs and artifacts from Justin’s life, titled “I’d Burn a Thousand More Temples in Your Name,” included educational resources provided by the Obesity Action Coalition. An essential part of his work was to make sure that anyone who viewed his installation was able to leave with unbiased, science-based information about obesity.
