Dear John,
I have an urgent reminder: The Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) Open Enrollment period ends tomorrow, December 15, so now is the time to review your coverage or make changes! You can sign up HERE or call 1-800-318-2596 (Teletype is available at 1-855-889-4325). And note that there are insurance agents and community partner organizations that can help with applying for financial help and choosing private plans on HealthCare.gov. You can find them here: https://healthcare.oregon.gov/Pages/find-help.aspx.
As Oregon’s worst coronavirus infection wave continues, it’s more important than ever to make sure you’re covered. Even if you are worried you may not be able to afford coverage, I encourage you to look at your options during the open enrollment period. And keep in mind that if your income has dropped significantly during the last year, you may qualify for free coverage through the Oregon Health Plan. There is also financial assistance available for working- and middle-class Oregonians to put coverage within reach.
Health care is a human right that every person -- regardless of the color of their skin, their zip code, or their income -- deserves. Our communities are at their strongest when we’re all healthy and thriving, and this has never been more true than during this pandemic. So I hope you will take this opportunity to sign up and get covered, and that you’ll remind your family, friends, and neighbors about this year’s open enrollment period. And please know that I will continue to do all that I can to fight for legislation -- like my Make Medications Affordable by Preventing Pandemic Price-gouging (MMAPPP) Act -- to lower the cost of the health care and medicines Oregonians need to be healthy.
All my best, Jeff
