Who do you want to be?
I ask my 6th grade students this question regularly. Sure, I ask them what they want to be when they grow up as well, but more importantly, I ask them who they want to be.
Do they want to be one who is kind? Helpful? Do they want to enter junior high as someone others go to for help and friendship?
I know that who I want to be is someone who makes my students feel safe and loved and valued, but who do I want to be as a member of society?
Youth all around the world are showing us who they want to be. From Greta Thunberg's Climate Strike to Parkland survivors Tyah-Amoy Roberts and David Hogg's March for Our Lives, young people are standing up and showing us who they are.
Who do we want to be for them? At the end of the day, will we have done enough to show them who we are?
I stand with John, not just as his wife, but as someone who believes he is the person we want to show the youth of our nation that those in politics can be what they want and deserve.
Will you join me today by donating at [link removed] to help show my students, present and former, that the America they are fighting for is worth it?
Sincerely,
